Helpful Resources for students & parents
As we attempt to meet the needs of every child, parental involvement is crucial. All too often the beliefs instilled into a child represent inconsistent messages from the child's home and school environments. So that a child may grow academically, the importance of an education as a means of preparedness must be shared. To accomplish this goal, Bucyrus City School District has invested in support services before and after school using 21st Century Community Learning Center grant funds. Furthermore, BCSD provides guidance services in the elementary, middle and high school levels. BCSD also provides social services at the elementary and secondary level. We encourage all parents to participate in their child's academic and social network at home and in school. Moreover, we encourage all parents to become actively engaged in the parent-teacher organizations available at the elementary (PTO) and secondary (Academic Boosters) levels. These organizations serve as advisory groups to our administration and as support networks for parents and students alike.
Our aim is to prepare our young people for the competitive world of a 21st century global marketplace. As such, we have created a College and Career Ready Instructional Framework. Our students ideally begin to explore the world of career readiness in third grade through the Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) program and become exposed to Junior Achievement (JA) and use Explore results to align interests and abilities while taking a Careers course in the eighth grade. These sequential opportunities are designed to add relevance and purpose to our students' academic experience. We have experienced tremendous success with this sequence, especially when the student's parent is actively engaged in the process as well.
Lastly, we are dedicated to a customer-service environment. We recognize parents fear retribution and often are unwilling to provide recommendations or suggest change; you have my promise and that of my administration that no child will ever be the victim of retribution due to his/her parent's inquiries and suggestions. Moreover, we welcome your input at all levels and at all times.
