The Bucyrus City School District Preschool Program is a Five-Star Step Up To Quality Award winner from the state of Ohio for the program’s commitment to quality and an ongoing dedication to the learning and development of children. This recognition is the highest the Ohio Department of Education awards to preschool programs throughout the state.
Step Up To Quality is Ohio’s rating system for learning and development programs. Participating programs can earn a one to five-star rating.
In addition to meeting all standards for a three-star rating, the Bucyrus Preschool Program earned five-stars because the program has lower staff/child ratios, uses child assessment results to plan activities that best support learning and development goals for each child, works with other organizations or businesses within the community to support children and their families, has an active and organized parent volunteer group, uses input from families and community partners to inform continuous improvement process, and has received accreditation by an approved organization.
Research confirms that the first five years of a child’s life has a direct impact on how children develop emotional well being, in addition to, learning and social skills. For these reasons, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Ohio Department of Education are committed to improving early childhood opportunities for all children in the state.
Children who live in the Bucyrus City School District, and are three years old by August 1 of the current year and toilet-trained by the beginning of the school year are eligible to register for preschool. Registration forms are available at Preschool, the Lincoln Administrative Center, and Bucyrus Elementary School. Additional documents needed include:

Full paying tuition for half-day preschool is $110 per month, while full paying tuition is $150 per month for all-day preschool. Tuition is based on the school year, regardless of the school days per month. All tuition is due the first day of each month.
Tuition will not be refunded for days a child may be absent. Parents have 7 days to pay their child’s tuition or it will be considered delinquent. If this is the case, the child will not be admitted to the program until the account is current.
If the district has a 2-hour delay, our AM preschool will be in session beginning at 10:15. Lunch will be available. Our PM preschool will follow its normal schedule which includes bussing and lunch. If BCSD closes, our preschool will also be closed.
