Three students from the Bucyrus City Schools will represent the district during the Tri- County Spelling Bee at 6:30 p.m. at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) Thursday, Feb. 9.

2017 Crawford County Spelling Bee Champion Alex Wion (8th grade) qualified when she correctly spelled “kinetic” to take the top spot in the county. Fourth grader Elizabeth Wilson and fifth grader Malia Posey finished in the Top 12 at the county competition to qualify for the next level.

“All of our students worked hard to prepare themselves for the Crawford County Spelling Bee,” said Gifted Coordinator Carrie Wood. “The district’s representatives have been preparing with their teachers and parents since the conclusion of the county spelling bee to help hone their spelling skills for the regional competition at MOESC Feb. 9.”

In addition to winning the county spelling bee, Alex Wion will represent Bucyrus in the Scripps Online Spelling Bee in hopes of qualifying for the Ohio Regional Bee.

“I want to congratulate all of our students for a strong showing at the county spelling bee,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “We wish our district’s representatives to the Tri-County Spelling Bee, Alex, Elizabeth and Malia, the best of luck in the competition.”
