The Bucyrus High School Players Showchoir is hosting an event to showcase the many talents of Bucyrus alumni and current and retired staff for the Bucyrus community. The group will present the "Redmen Revue" at 7:00 p.m. in the Bucyrus Elementary School Community Auditorium Feb. 28.
This new event, which used to occur in the district as "Varsity Night", is designed to bring alumni back to the community and showcase talents of current and past staff members for current students and the community.
"Several retired teachers told me about 'Varsity Night' and I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to welcome alumni back and give them a chance to relive their high school days and perform for an audience," Director of Choirs Nickie French said. "I also realized that our current students have no idea about the many talents of the district's staff."
While this event is centered on strengthening alumni and community relations, it is also serving as a fundraiser. The Players Showchoir will be taking a performance trip to New York City, and the proceeds from this event will help students pay for the trip.
"We are trying to foster strong bonds between our school, alumni and community," French said. "We hope this will become an excellent tradition that provides a positive, fun and entertaining experience!"
There are still spaces available for alumni, current staff members and retired staff members wishing to participate in the "Redmen Revue." Visit the “Alumni and Community” section of the district’s website, www.bucyrusschools.org, and click on the “Redmen Revue” link to register.
"I am very proud of Mrs. French and her students for the initiative they are taking to organize this outstanding event," Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. "I am very excited to see our alumni, along with current and retired staff members, performing on the stage."
