Bucyrus City School District Food Services General Manager Lorie Pennington was selected as honorable mention in the 2015 Sodexo Foundation's Heroes of Everyday Life program. Pennington was one of 10 individuals recognized from a pool of more than 100 applicants.
The Heroes of Everyday Life program recognizes Sodexo employees who invest their time, talent and service spirit in helping those at-risk of hunger in the United States. Those individuals selected as Heroes and honorable mention receives a grant from the Sodexo Foundation for the honoree's hunger-related charity of choice.
"This is an amazing honor to be selected as honorable mention in this year's Heroes of Everyday Life program," Pennington said. "Recognition is nice, but it's not important to me. Making sure Bucyrus children don't go hungry is my main focus."
Each nominee is evaluated on: demonstrated impact; level of positive influence on their local communities; the number of people affected; whether or not others were motivated to join the fight against hunger; and, whether activities were innovative and educational. Pennington's hunger-related charity of choice is the Bucyrus Backpack Program, which will receive a $1,000 grant to help Bucyrus children.
"This is a well-deserved recognition for an individual who works tirelessly to help Bucyrus students," Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. "A well-balanced diet is an important component to a quality education, and we are fortunate to have Lorie and the Backpack Program volunteers working diligently to help feed our children year-round."
