The Bucyrus City School District Board of Education took the first steps in refining their strategic plan by approving a new vision and mission statement during its regular monthly meeting July 25.
“The relentless pursuit of success!” was chosen as the district’s new vision, while the mission statement reads: “We, the Bucyrus School Community, are inspired to achieve excellence, realize limitless potential, discover passions, and be outstanding members of society.”
“We conducted three work sessions over the past several months with the goal of retooling our district’s strategic plan that was created in 2009,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “The work over the past seven years has laid a solid foundation for where we are today as a school community.”
Along with the vision and mission statement, the board also adopted four goals for the district. These goals include: Climate and Culture; District Resources; Learning and Instruction; and Communications.
“These goals provide a framework for accountability and allow for annual, strategic governance-oriented conversations,” Kimmel said. “Each of these areas have goals that describe activity that will be taking place in the district for the next several years.”
Goal setting provides an umbrella for all other “subsets” or other plans and objectives within the district. Each goal will have a Board of Education member and a district administrator, along with committee members, assigned to lead the development of the objectives which are the specific, measureable work, projects or activities.
The Board approved all other business and personnel agenda items as presented. The next regular Board of Education meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Lincoln Administrative Center Thursday, August 25.
