As the 2015-2016 school year comes to a close, students throughout the Bucyrus City School District are preparing for the next step in their educational journey. Fifth grade students at Bucyrus Elementary School are not just preparing to move to sixth grade, but they’re also preparing for their “move” to the Bucyrus Secondary School next school year with two events in the coming weeks.
The first event will be the annual fifth grade orientation and Energy Fair, hosted by the Bucyrus High School Science Club, May 9. Fifth grade students will have the chance to tour the Middle School, see the inner workings of the building and meet with current High School students. The Energy Fair is designed to expose students to new ideas about science, as well as interact with students they will see on a daily basis at the Secondary School.
“This program is very important in helping the incoming sixth grade students make a smooth transition to our building,” Secondary School Principal Mark Burke said. “Ms. Devine does an outstanding job organizing the orientation activities, and our Science Club members, under the guidance of Mrs. Hargis and Mr. O’Connell, go above and beyond to provide a great program for the younger students and make them feel welcome in the building.”
The Elementary School will host its first ever Fifth Grade Graduation ceremony at 2:00 p.m. in the Bucyrus Elementary School auditorium Friday, May 13. This new program is designed to be a celebration of the fifth grade students’ accomplishments.
“This is a new tradition that we are starting in our building as a celebration of the many achievements and contributions of our fifth grade students each year,” Elementary School Principal Erica Dietzel said. “The fifth grade teachers are doing a wonderful job organizing the event, and I hope our students’ families will take the time to join us in this celebration!”
