The Bucyrus Elementary School, in partnership with the Bucyrus Public Library and the Mansfield Barnes & Noble Book Store, is excited to welcome #1 New York Times best-selling children’s author Jan Brett to Bucyrus! The main event will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Elementary School auditorium Dec. 2.
Brett will give a 20-minute presentation, and then sign books for 2 hours the evening of the event. This event is free and open to the public, and the first 100 families in line will receive a free signed Jan Brett poster Friday, Dec. 2.
“This is such an exciting opportunity for our students, their families and our Bucyrus community,” said Bucyrus Elementary School librarian Diane Kaple. “This will be Jan’s ONLY stop in Ohio on her book signing tour around the United States, and we are grateful to be hosting this amazing author.”
Barnes & Noble will be selling books the evening of the event, and the BES Library will receive a percentage of the sales and will receive a gift card from Barnes & Noble to purchase books for the school library.
The Bucyrus Public Library will host a week filled with activities focused exclusively on Jan Brett. The activities will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Bucyrus Public Library Nov. 28 through Dec. 1.
On Monday, Nov. 28, families will be making rice crispy treat gingerbread houses. Tuesday, Nov. 29, children can make gingerbread man necklaces and color images from Jan Brett’s new book, “Gingerbread Christmas.” Wednesday, Nov. 30, children can make and decorate gingerbread man popsicle sticks. Thursday, Dec. 1, the Bucyrus Public Library will host a storybook walk, featuring “Gingerbread Christmas,” during the Bucyrus Candlelight Christmas.
“With this being Jan’s only stop in Ohio, we are anticipating a very large crowd,” said Kaple. “She will do her best to sign as many books as time will permit. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m., and we encourage all families to get to BES early Dec. 2.”
The tour is for Brett’s newest book, “Gingerbread Christmas,” released in October.
