Attention Bucyrus Secondary School Parents
Dec. 10, 2010
Dear Parents,
On Thursday night three children, two of whom attended the Bucyrus Elementary School, were tragically killed. The incident is still under investigation by local and state officials. We realize these recent deaths have a major impact on our students and staff and are doing all we can to help in this difficult time of need.
Currently our students and staff members are meeting with members of the Crawford County Trauma Debriefing Team. The Trauma Team is well prepared to assist both students and staff through such tragic incidents.
If needed, a presentation for parents will be scheduled. This presentation will provide an opportunity to ask questions and address concerns about our response or our students’ reactions. Information will be updated and released as needed.
It would not be unusual for your child to express themselves differently during the next few weeks. Such an incident can have a profound effect on students, even when they were not in the same class or grade as those who perished. The presentation will identify the different kinds of reactions you might expect to see.
Should you not want your child included in our interventions, please call the Bucyrus Secondary School office at 419-562-7721. If you wish to talk with one of our team members, please be patient as they are very busy responding to students. If it is an emergency, clearly indicate this to the receptionist so your call can be given priority.
Thank you very much for your concern.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kevin Kimmel
Bucyrus Secondary School Principal
Dr. Todd M. Nichols
Bucyrus City School Superintendent
