Thornton Recognized as James Thomas High School Teacher Award Recipient

The Bucyrus Secondary School is pleased to announce Margaret Ann Fehrman Thornton as a 2012 recipient of the James Thomas High School Teacher Award at Baldwin-Wallace College.

The James Thomas High School Teacher Award is a way for Baldwin-Wallace College and its upcoming graduates to recognize a teacher who has had a positive influence on his/her life. Thornton, a retired AP/senior English teacher at the Bucyrus Secondary School, was nominated by graduating senior Jessica McClarren, a 2008 Bucyrus alum, for her valuable help in preparing McClarren for her college experience.

“Mrs. Thornton’s recent recognition is yet another example of how important teachers are in the community,” Principal Matthew Henderson said. “The positive influence of a teacher can leave a long-term impact on a student well beyond the brief years spent in a classroom. I strongly believe teachers, such as Mrs. Thornton, deserve to have these types of tributes paid to them more often because of the work that they do for our kids.”

Thornton, along with eight other educators, will be recognized for her hard work and dedication at a special banquet on April 22 at Baldwin-Wallace, as well as presented with a check in the amount of $1,000. Thanks to her influence and impact on students during her tenure, the secondary school will also be awarded with a $1,000 check; money will be used to support Bucyrus students.
