Dress Code Subcommittee Announces Next Steps

The Bucyrus City Schools’ dress code subcommittee would like to thank parents and community members for their valuable input and feedback regarding campus wear over the last several months.

During the committee’s most recent meeting, content and feedback from the community forum, safe learning survey, district-wide dress code survey, online comments and personal conversations with parents and community members were reviewed and discussed. In light of these responses, the committee has made the decision that they will not be recommending campus wear for students in the district, at this time.

Instead, the committee has decided to investigate potential adjustments to the current student dress code, in hopes of creating a policy that is easily monitored and consistently enforced by teachers and administration building wide. “We want our dress code to better reflect the changing climate, while still meeting the expectations of the community at-large and our building administration,” Principal Matt Henderson said. “I hope our decision reflects how valuable and important community feedback is in the decision-making process at the Bucyrus Secondary School, and encourage members of the community to continue to support us as we move forward in this venture.”

The next committee meeting will be held at 6 p.m. March 26 in the BSS media center. Additional topics such as discipline and attendance will also be discussed. “Our goal is to continue the dialogue and begin to review other important areas concerning our students,” Henderson said. “We are repurposing the committee and will now look to this group for behavioral support and recommendations moving forward. All interested parties are invited to attend.”

Please note that all data used in the dress code decision-making process can be viewed online. For additional committee information, call Henderson at 419-562-7721.
