Kevin Kimmel, Superintendent

kevin-kimmelKevin D. Kimmel began his career with the Bucyrus City School District in 1998 as the Athletic/Activities Director, a position he held for 5 years. During this time, he also served as the Head Boys Basketball coach for 2 seasons. Mr. Kimmel transitioned to the position of high school assistant principal, which he held for 5 years, and then served as the secondary principal for 3 years. Mr. Kimmel was named Superintendent in the summer of 2011. Prior to coming to Bucyrus, Mr. Kimmel taught and coached at the Allen East School District and the Buckeye Central School District.

Mr. Kimmel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from the University of Findlay and his Masters of Education degree in Education Administration from Ashland University, and also earned his Principal and Superintendent Licenses through Ashland University. Mr. Kimmel also successfully completed the Ohio School Leadership Institute through The Center for Creative Leadership.

Mr. Kimmel’s professional affiliations include membership in the Mid-American Association of School Superintendents, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, The School Superintendents Association, and Buckeye Association of School Administrators. He is currently active with the Crawford Partnership. Mr. Kimmel is a board member for the Bay Area Gas Consortium and the SPARC council.

Mr. Kimmel resides in Bucyrus and is happily married to his wife, Tonya, who is a first grade teacher. They have three children who all attend Bucyrus City Schools; Karson, Madalyn, and Aubrie.

Ryan Cook, Treasurer

ryan-cookMr. Ryan Cook joined the Bucyrus City School District family December 2012 as the Interim Treasurer, and became the Treasurer in February 2013. Mr. Cook has served as a Board Member, Treasurer and Interim Treasurer during his career in education. He also has experience in Fiscal Services with TRECA

Mr. Cook provides financial, technical, and logistical support for the fiscal office of Bucyrus City School District as the Chief Financial Officer. He provides support and training for school administrators in support of their Federal program application process and program administration.

Mr. Cook works to ensure Board of Education satisfaction through the communication of financial information through Financial Committee Meetings and monthly reporting. He forges positive relationships with school district personnel and contacts at the State level, and provides financial management to the district by identifying and implementing sound financial practices and to support the goal of building fiscally sound educational organizations.

Mr. Cook earned the Associate and Bachelor of Arts degrees from The Ohio State University, and earned the Master of Business Administration from Tiffin University. He has completed School Finance and Economics and School Law and Ethics courses at Ashland University. Mr. Cook holds both the School Treasurer and School Business Manager licensure, and earned the Six Sigma Green Belt from Purdue University.

Additional District Leadership

Deborah Musick, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent., has been with Bucyrus City Schools for four years. She holds an Associate Degree from the University of Akron. Her primary responsibilities include maintaining contracts, personnel records, and board policies for Board of Education and working with the district’s contractors. Deborah appreciates the staff she gets to work with everyday.

Carrie Wood, Gifted and Literacy Coordinator, has been with Bucyrus City Schools for three years. She has a B.A. From MVNU, a M.A. In Early Childhood from OSU, and a Gifted Specialist endorsement from University of Cincinnati. Her primary responsibilities include working with staff and students regarding best practices in literacy and gifted education and providing professional development in instructional pedagogy in literacy and gifted education. Carrie is impressed with Bucyrus City Schools and its community as they partner to provide a safe and loving learning environment for all children.

Mr. John Massara, Director of Student Services, started his career with the Bucyrus City School District as Associate Principal at Bucyrus Secondary School. Mr. Massara earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University and a Masters degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Massara’s primary focus is serving the district’s population of students with disabilities. He oversees the development of guidelines for students, recommending new or revised policies that correspond with state and federal guidelines, managing student services staff, and overseeing budgets for student services.  Mr. Massara also works and communicates with students, parents, staff members, and other internal and external individuals. He also has knowledge of our district’s board policies and procedures, as well as relevant federal, state, and local laws. In addition to his day-to-day duties, he serve as the district’s liaison to the Crawford County Community Concert Association Board, as well as the district’s Learning and Instruction Committee.

Charma Schifer, Food Service Director and Wellness Coordinator, has been with Bucyrus City Schools since July, 2018. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from OSU. Her primary responsibilities include overseeing the food service department. Charma is “I’m enjoying learning my new responsibilities in the food service department and look forward to feeding and getting to know students in the upcoming school year.”

Dave Jones, Technology Director, has been with Bucyrus City Schools for four years. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. His primary responsibilities include purchasing, managing and maintaining all of the technological equipment in the district. Dave enjoys being “a part of the school community that prepares our students for success after they leave us.”

Jake Grau, Maintenance, has been with Bucyrus City Schools for eight years. Mr. Grau has a HVAC certification from NCSC. His primary responsibilities include providing maintenance for all of the district’s grounds. Jake enjoys that his position gives him a new problem to solve everyday.

Felecia Ervin, EMIS Coordinator, has been with Bucyrus City Schools for twenty years. She has an Associate Degree in Accounting and Data Processing and a B.S. in Education. Her primary responsibilities include reporting all student and staff data to the ODE. Felecia especially appreciates the wonderful staff she works with every day.
