BREAKING NEWS:  “SOCK HOP” TO BE HELD IN OLD BHS GYM

You are invited to join fellow Bucyrus High School alumni (from the 1950s and 1960s) at a “sock hop.”  The event will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 14, in the gymnasium at the old Bucyrus High School (now the Bucyrus Elementary School).  This get-together will give you a chance to relive a memorable aspect of the glory days of your youth, i.e., attending “sock hops” in that very gym.

We realize that, at our age, some of us have lost a step or two in our dance routine (that would be at least five steps in my case). I do, however, think there are more brave souls than we would imagine who will be able to demonstrate how it was done back in the day.  For those who prefer not to show off their dancing abilities of yesteryear, it will be great fun listening to the greatest hits of the 1950s, talking about old times, and catching up on what is going on with old friends.

We plan to start this gala affair at 7:00 PM and continue until we are all worn down (I would imagine that would be about 10:00 PM and maybe earlier for many of us who go to bed before that bewitching hour). We will have an intermission during which refreshments will be served and special awards will be presented. These awards will include the following: Best Dancer, Worst Dancer, Best ‘50s outfit, etc.

Please RSVP by August 20 to Bill Elder, 8932 Green Chase Drive, Montgomery, Alabama 36117 or williamtelder@charter.net. For additional information, call 334-318-5547.

This event will be hosted by the H.A.C. Club, a just-for-fun group from back in the day.
