Personnel the focus of April Bucyrus board meeting

The Bucyrus City School District Board of Education approved a full list of personnel items during its regular meeting April 25.

The board held public hearings to consider the retirement and rehiring of Janet Corns as an Educational Aide and Jay Dennison as the Bucyrus Secondary School Associate Principal. Bucyrus Elementary School Librarian Diane Kaple, who announced her retirement earlier in the school year, was rehired for the 2019-2020 school year.

Two discussions were held during the meeting. The first dealt with Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) sanctioned versus unsanctioned events, and their impact on the Bucyrus High School Athletic Wall of Fame. The second was a proposal for the annual BHS Band Camp trip.

“We had two student-athletes who competed in state-level competitions during the winter sports season,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “One student-athlete competed in an OHSAA sanctioned event, while the other competed in an unsanctioned event. Regardless of the OHSAA designation, we are incredibly proud of both of these student-athletes.”

A one-year administrative contract was approved for Secondary School Assistant Principal Kevin Fourman and Athletics/Activities Director Rick Rawson. Director of Curriculum and Instruction Matthew Henderson received a three-year administrative contract.

The board approved an agreement to employ Matthew Chrispin as interim Superintendent from June 1 through July 31, while Kevin Kimmel will serve as a consultant during that same time period.

All other items on the agenda were approved as presented. The next regular meeting of the Bucyrus City School District Board of Education will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Board Room Thursday, May 23.
